6. He Was Wanted For The Role Since On Her Majesty's Secret Service
I still find it shocking to this day that Dalton only made two films. Being a biased fan notwithstanding, his version of Bond met with mostly commercial and critical praise. What makes his two-film stay odd is that Timothy Dalton was actually approached several times to be Bond even before The Living Daylights. Like Pierce Brosnan, who would follow him in the role, Dalton was first asked to play Bond much earlier in his life. At the age of 24, the producers asked him to be the new 007 for On Her Majesty's Secret Service in 1968. He refused saying that he was too young and did not want to follow Connery, who hadn't made a mistake in the series yet. When the producers approached him again in the early 80s he refused once more saying he did not like the feel the films were taking. Finally when Moore had to retire he took on the role providing that a new vision of the character would be implemented.
