007 Reasons Why Quantum of Solace is a Great Bond Film

006. The Music

David Arnold is a reliable Bond composer, and even if the film is poor (Die Another Day), you can never fault his music. Much as he did with Shaft, he takes a familiar sound and brings a fresh new twist to it (the only equal he has in this repsect is Michael Giacchino€™s work in The Incredibles, and I€™m astounded he wasn€™t hired by the Bond team on the spot to score a film after his effort there)- he€™s very much like Alan Silvestri in that his scores are always solid and memorable. I will be very interested to see what Thomas Newman brings to Skyfall, as I will miss Arnold€™s efforts here. His score to Quantum of Solace is marvellous, even if the opening song is not what we all quite expected. Arnold really takes advantage of the majority of the film being set in South America, and crafts something of a theme for Camille, even if it is not as obvious or as memorable as Vesper€™s theme. The music for the opening chase, Mathis€™ final moments and the very end of the film in Siberia are particular highlights. It€™s another great score, and one of the better efforts. Any film, good or bad, can be made better with a damn good score, and that€™s what we get with Quantum of Solace. Even if you don€™t like it, you can€™t fault the music.
