10 2016 Movies That Are Destined To Disappoint You
9. Warcraft
The Buzz: Has there ever been a more promising video game adaptation than Warcraft? It's directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code), features the likes of Ben Foster, Toby Kebbell and Dominic Cooper, and draws from source material with a more dense and expansive mythology than almost any other video game franchise. If any movie can break the curse of video game movies, it's surely this one, right? Why It's Going To Disappoint: Well, the odds aren't in its favour from a historical perspective and Jones has never directed a movie of this scale before: Source Code cost a modest $32 million, but Warcraft is budgeted at $100 million. That's a big thing. Then there's the more damning proof of the first trailer: the inconsistent quality of the visual effects and generic plotting and dialogue don't suggest a particularly interesting film. Those expecting the first truly great video game movie may have to settle for one that's just decent or perhaps even a mediocre style-over-substance affair.
