10 2017 Movies That Could Score 100% On Rotten Tomatoes
5. Star Wars: Episode VIII
The Force Awakens stabilised the Star Wars series after the “mixed” response to the prequel trilogy, and Rogue One has proven to be a solid spin-off adventure. Awakens was somewhat let down by sloppy storytelling and excessive fan service – JJ Abrams trademarks in other words – but Episode VIII could be the one that matches up to series gold standard The Empire Strikes Back.
It will mark the return of Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker after his understated cameo at the end of the previous movie. The return of one of the most iconic characters in sci-fi should be exciting enough, but the film will also develop and explore the threads set up from Force Awakens, like who the hell is Snoke, what will Kylo Ren do next and why is Rey so important?
Director Rian Johnson previously gave us Looper and two of the best episodes of Breaking Bad, and if any of the new Star Wars movies stands the chance of being rated a genuine classic, this is the one.
