10 21st Century Horror Movies That Are So Bad They're Good

6. 47 Metres Down (2017)

47 Meters Down is one of the most famous fails in 21st century horror. Two girls embark on a holiday diving trip into a cage to watch the sharks when it is snapped from the mechanism and they fall in to the deep sea – and yes, you guessed it, 47 meters to the bottom (hence the title).

With a slightly bigger budget, this film has made it on the list due to the lack in other aspects. The CG sharks are actually one of the elements that doesn’t let the film down, compared to the high budget blockbusters of the most famous shark in the world, built on malfunctioning mechanics (not naming any names Spielberg!).

This movie is very American, and the acting from the two main actresses at times lacks commitment – sometimes spending an uncomfortable amount of time screaming each other’s names rather than finding a way out of the cage and to safety.

However, it deserves some praise for the suspense. There are particularly clever moments during the end of the second act where you are not sure what is real and what isn’t. It does feel as if the audience are trapped alongside the victims in the cage, with tension filled dark water scenes and quiet intakes of breath as the sharks make their way closer to them – be prepared to jump as this film is filled with scares!
