There were many David Lynch films that could have been on this list, but for sheer pretentiousness this one gains an entry. The film thinks it is so much more clever than it is because it is deliberately confusing, but on deeper analysis it actually has nothing new or especially important to say.

The film's sheer incomprehensibility makes it an avoid at all costs flick for most people, but even for those who could untangle the messy web were left severely let down. Fame isn't all its cracked up to be. Hollywood is full of lurking dangers. Come on David, even you're better than that.

The one redeeming factor the film has is the growing love story between Rita and Betty, played excellently by Naomi Watts and Laura Harling, and there would be few people in the world who wouldn't get a little hot and heavy watching those sex scenes. But this proves to be nothing more than a false dawn, Lynch taking the easy way out with a shallow message about the perils of Hollywood in the most ludicrous way imaginable.
