The hype around this movie at its time of release was quite something, with its glowing reviews and scary trailer promising a very special horror experience. Instead it proved to be a massive letdown, a dull slog with one of the lamest and unintentionally funny endings in Horror film history. While the critics were unified in praise, it was notable that the audience were largely unified in their disappointment.

The story starts well enough, if a little slowly, with a seemingly normal family overcoming dead mother issues. Figurines of the not so dearly departed are carved out and placed in model houses. Could the spirit of the mother be hiding inside? Will this creepy cinematography signify something more evil? Well no, it all means nothing.

Instead the film concentrates on the weird daughter who is getting waved at by a bunch of strangers as she cuts off the heads off of dead birds, which is symbolic of something apparently. The girl ends up having her head knocked off in a car accident(see, symbolism!) before the evil entity that was inside her takes over the girl's brother, who also happened to be responsible for the girl's death.

The whole thing is just a mess, with over the top acting from the usually reliable Toni Collette wiping away any semblance of tension. The less said about the ending the better, although the headless corpse did give the audience a good laugh, even if it was completely unintended.
