10 '70s Sci-Fi Movies You Need To Watch Before You Die
2. Stalker (1979)
Stalker is a story of two men, a writer and a professor, who travel through a mysterious and forbidden place called The Zone, with the help of the ‘stalker’ guide. The area is inhabited by aliens and features 'The Room' - apparently, a spot where wishes are granted. The room is sealed off by the government and only by the stalker’s lead can the two men hope to make it to the place of legend.
The actual premise is simplistic but allows for some complex themes and deep subjects, as the two intellectual leads realise it will take a lot more than just determination to discover the truth of the zone.
It's a relatively small cast but works in favour of the film because it helps to build some very compelling lead characters. As Anatoly and Nikolai go through the zone, the audience feels like they're journeying through it with them.
Stalker is not just an intriguing drama story but a magnificent accomplishment in art rendered on screen. It is a well-paced, intelligent movie and a truly unforgettable experience to watch.
