10 80s Films That Deserve The TV Reboot Treatment
5. Weird Science
This one saw two nerdy and, well, horny teens create their dream girl using electrodes, a hacked government super computer and a doll... the 1980s were a weird time for film concepts.
As with a lot fo movies in the 1980s, gender equality and representation were not what they are today. Often told from the male perspective which meant accuracy was shrouded in bias. These narratives, although still present, struggle to get past the probing eye of the film critic who have no time for outdated concepts, and rightly so. So it becomes a intriguing idea to reimagine Weird Science for modern audiences.
Rebooted as a TV show, as opposed to a movie, should benefit the fish out of water concept, with each week presenting a new learning curve as well as fresh chaos to be unleashed and tamed . Much like a police-serial or superhero show each episode could present a new challenge for the protagonist to overcome and learn from.
How It Should Work
Gary and Wyatt have found success thanks to their tech-savviness but trouble arises when their children create their dream girl. However, this time we see the world through their creation's eyes as she discovers what it is to be a woman in a male-dominated world. Lessons are learnt as the boys begin to change and improve themselves and the more they and their creation discover what it's like to be a woman.
