1. The Matrix (1999)
Already a mix of a ton of other things (from Alices Adventures in Wonderland to Hong Kong action movies) while still feeling like a wholly original, blistering piece of sci-fi action cinema in and of itself, the Wachowskis seminal film could very easily be put through the Hollywood remake machine. It will probably be later rather than sooner, perhaps a decade or two from now, but its mix of heady ideas, stunning visuals, potentially star-making lead role and almost limitless premise (i.e. a simulated world people can plug into) makes a new version all but guaranteed. If it does come to fruition then a new franchise will undoubtedly be kicked off and if so we can only hope the sequels turn out better than the last couple.
