6. Maniac Cop 2

Popcorn 1991
Lionsgate

Maniac Cop follows a murdered police officer called Matt Cordell who rises from the dead to slaughter innocents across New York.

Even though Maniac Cop is a lot of fun, it didn't need a sequel. I mean, it's just about a killer cop. What could a follow-up do without just retreading its predecessor?

But against all odds, Maniac Cop 2 is just as good as the original. This time around, Cordell teams up with another serial killer, making his rampages more lethal. (Also, Maniac Cop 2 does the "protégé of a serial killer" subplot far more efficiently than Halloween Ends.)

Not only are the kills bigger and bloodier, the action is dialled up to 11. The car chases look so dangerous, it's hard to believe the stunt drivers didn't get killed during filming. Also, it's awesome to watch Cordell butcher his victims... while he's on fire.

Surprisingly, Maniac Cop 2 is more emotional than you'd expect. Rather than killing with no rhyme or reason, Cordell is going after the criminals who murdered him, making the story more personal.

And without spoiling anything, Maniac Cop 2 does something in the first 15 minutes that's so ballsy, nobody sees it coming.
