10 Abandoned Franchises That Deserved Another Movie

6. Wanted

Hellboy 2
Universal Pictures

The plot of 2008's Wanted is absolute nonsense of the highest order, but one of the things that made the movie so enjoyable was that director Timur Bekmambetove knew this and fully embraced it, leaning into the gonzo insanity that comes with bullets that defy the laws of physics and gravity, as well as having the fate of the planet left in the hands of a loom with the ability to predict the future or something.

The $75m action blockbuster was a huge success, bringing in over $340m and establishing James McAvoy as the latest in a long line of unlikely action heroes, and a sequel was planned before the first movie had even hit theaters. However, the idea of Wanted 2 never seemed to come together, and any plans for a follow-up eventually fizzled out altogether.

After countless false starts, Universal just seemed to give up on the second outing, which is a real shame because the highly-stylized and kinetic universe lent itself perfectly to further adventures set in the top-secret assassin underworld.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
