10 Acclaimed Movies Everybody Now Hates
9. Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull
If you talk to an Indiana Jones fan about Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, chances are you'll be able to hear the poison in their voice.
... which makes that 78% on Rotten Tomatoes pretty intriguing.
Reactions to the film were polarised, making it a love it or hate it addition to the franchise. While many craved the nostalgia of the world of their favourite adventurer and enjoyed it thoroughly, others decided to focus in on its issues, pointing out ridiculous plot holes and the addition of Shia LaBeouf as Indy's son.
So considering the negative reactions always existed, it's interesting to consider which side of the argument has taken precedence over the years since release. Audiences were clearly up for it at the time, but nowadays, if a sequel to a popular franchise from the 80s receives a new instalment that isn't up to scratch, it'll bomb miserably (just look at Terminator).
And yet, Crystal Skull was the second-highest grossing film of 2008, with nearly $800 million in box office receipts.
