10 Acting Careers Destroyed By Great Movies

5. Terrence Howard - Iron Man

The Film: Iron Man kicked off the insanely successful juggernaut franchise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), rebooting the career of Robert Downey Jr in the process. Terrance Howard would pick up the role of Col. James Rhodes and sign on for a three movie deal with the production of sequels already in the works. What many don't know is that Howard was actually the highest paid actor for the film, which would go on to cause some issues with RDJ in particular. It was also the catalyst of his downfall. What Happened Next: Sorry Gordon Gekko, but greed is not always good. Just ask Terrence Howard. After the roaring success of the first film in the Marvel extended universe, Howard was apparently offered a substantial pay cut to reprise his role as 'Rhody' in the sequel, which he duly declined and quit his three movie deal with Marvel after it was reveled to him that the money he would be losing would instead go to his co-star, Downey Jr. According to Showbizcafe.com's Tony Rico, who appeared on NBC's Today Show with the details, Howard was initially in line for US$8 million but was offered just US$1 million as his character wasn't viewed by the studios as a vital role in the film. A cocktail of Howard's greed and stubbornness cost him a role in the famed franchise and the backlash of the film has inadvertently sunk his career. What Now: Since the Iron Man debacle, Terrence Howard has rebounded with... well pretty much nothing. Confessing to still being quite bitter about the whole situation, Howard has struggled to recuperate from what could have been a huge multi movie kicker on his resume, not to mention his bank account.
