10 Action Movies That Looked Awesome But Sucked

5. Taken 2

Sit down and watch Liam Neeson’s hilarious cameo in Ted 2, then go back to Taken 2 and ask yourself: is he playing the same person? There does seem to be an underlying spoof element to the proceedings, as though Neeson and Luc Beeson are sending themselves up, though who’s to say whether it was intentional?

Anyway, Taken 2 is basically Taken 1 with a slight reversal – this time, it’s Neeson who’s abducted and has to rely on his daughter’s help. In other words, the only person who can save the day is Maggie Grace. Uh oh.

The director is Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3, Columbiana) who’s no stranger to by-the-numbers action films, and if it feels a little more forced this time around, well, that’s how it goes in sequels. On a side note, are there not too many similarities between Bryan Mills and 24’s Jack Bauer to be a coincidence? Both worked for government organizations, have blonde daughters named Kim and found their wives murdered. Time to lawyer up, Mr Besson.
