8. Sudden Death (1995)
Number eight in this list is Sudden Death. Often called Die Hard at a Hockey Game, I like to call it Die Hard on Ice. Now while Jim McClane and his other two imitators had some pretty impressive territory to cover, with Sly winning with an entire mountain range to fight on, Jean-Claude Van Damme has to kill the bad guys holed up in a Hockey arena. Now while this might sound fairly unimpressive in the size category, it is a big arena. His character is Darren McCord a firefighter who is guilt tripping because of his inability to save a little girl from a house fire. He was so traumatised by this event that he was removed from active duty as a fireman and becomes the safety Marshall for the civic arena. He is watching a game between Chicago Blackhawks and the Pittsburgh Penguins with his daughter Sally when terrorist Joshua Foss (Powers Boothe) and his gang kidnap the US Vice President. Holding the VP and his high-roller friends hostage in the VIP suite, he's planning on blowing up the arena at the end of the game and all the folks who are in it. As McChord is also there with his daughter, he personally sets out to spoil their evil plan. While his 'playing field' is not very grandiose, he has a lot of nooks and crannies to cover before he can save the day.
