10 Actors And Directors Who Absolutely Hated Each Other
7. Bill Murray & Harold Ramis
Film: Groundhog Day
Who doesn't love Groundhog Day? It's widely considered to be one of the greatest comedies of all time, and it stands tall among the best films of the 90s.
However, for all the praise and love levied at it since its release, Groundhog Day was the death knell for the long friendship and collaborative relationship between Bill Murray and director Harold Ramis. Initially, these two loved each other. Screenwriter Danny Rubin once said that they were like brothers. That all ended with Groundhog Day.
He and Ramis clashed about the film's script. According to reports, Ramis wanted to focus more on the comedy elements, while Murray was more into the film's philosophical aspects and underpinnings. Murray went through severe mood swings, and was often late to set. He deliberately made it difficult to get in touch with him, never answering the phone and never calling people back. Knowing that no one on set (including himself) could communicate in sign language, Murray hired a deaf assistant. You know, just to be a d*ck. Allegedly, Ramis once grabbed Murray by the collar and slung him against the wall.
The two didn't speak for over 20 years. They finally reconciled shortly before the terminally ill Ramis died in 2014.
