10 Actors Arrested Whilst Filming Movies
10. Wesley Snipes
Normally when a high profile actor is filming a new movie, it's obvious within a quick search where they are. Unusually for Wesley Snipes, his involvement with supernatural western Gallowwalkers in 2006 meant U.S. authorities had no idea where to look for him when he was indicted by a Florida court for eight counts of tax fraud. T
his was because Snipes was filming in the South African nation of Nambia when the arrest warrant was issued and Nambia is a country that doesn't have an extradition treaty with the U.S. This meant that Snipes was allowed to remain in the country until filming wrapped.
When the Blade actor returned to America he was arrested and convicted of three misdemeanour counts of failing to file tax returns and despite several appeals, he was sentenced to three years in federal prison. Snipes received the maximum sentence for his conviction, a move that led him to appeal on the grounds of racial bias.
Ironically, delays around the release of Gallowwalkers meant that Snipes was released from prison in the same year as the movie's opening, in 2013 and served the remaining four months of his sentence under house arrest.
