8. Nina Young - The Grey Lady

As you've already seen a few times on this list, a number of seemingly bit-part or even inconsequential roles had a habit of eventually evolving into vital cogs in the eventual juggernaut that became the Harry Potter movie machine. And that was what ultimately led to the dropping of the OG Grey Lady when the time came for Helena Ravenclaw's big moment in The Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

After ghosting around the halls of Hogwarts under the guidance of Nina Young in the first two chunks of Potter goodness, David Yates clearly felt that a change-up was needed for the moment she's confronted by Harry in that final film. So, Trainspotting and Boardwalk Empire star Kelly Macdonald was soon drafted into the franchise for the exchange that sees the leading character discover the location of Helena's mother Rowena's diadem.

As rumour has it, Macdonald was also supposedly up for the role of Nymphadora Tonks at one point, too.

Though Young didn't necessarily do anything wrong in her earlier and less memorable work as The Grey Lady, there's no questioning the fact that Macdonald's presence helped elevate the role in those dramatic final stages of the series.
