10 Actors In Recent Movies WAY Less Than Expected
These actors had MUCH smaller roles than anyone anticipated.
It's always a strange surprise when an actor ends up having a much smaller role in a film than expected, either because the marketing has cynically over-emphasised - or rather, flat out lied - about the size of their role, or the filmmakers genuinely wanted to pull the rug out from under audiences.
Most name actors will of course end up having sizable roles if they're featured prominently in a film's marketing, but there are absolutely exceptions, as proven by these 10 recent movies.
In these films certain actors ended up having way smaller roles than anyone anticipated.
Perhaps the character featured most prominently in the marketing actually dipped out after the first act, or maybe an advertised returning hero was ultimately only back for a hilariously brief cameo.
In some cases it left audiences massively disappointed, while in others the curtailed role was at least replaced with something equally worthwhile, enough that it was tough to begrudge the bait-and-switch too much.
Whatever the outcome, we all thought these actors were going to appear in these movies for way, way longer than they actually did...
10. Aaron Taylor-Johnson - 28 Years Later
The trailers for 28 Years Later were largely centered around the exploits of Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and his young son Spike (Alfie Williams), leading audiences to quite understandably assume that they were basically the long-awaited horror sequel's joint protagonists.
And while this absolutely seems to be the case for the film's first act, Jamie is slowly transitioned out of the story thereafter, as the focus shifts to Alfie heading out into the mainland with his mother Isla (Jodie Comer) in the hopes of curing her illness.
By the film's mid-point, Taylor-Johnson is basically out of the movie, and we only see him again for one brief additional scene at the very end of the film, almost a full hour after Jamie is last seen on-screen.
Granted, the film certainly doesn't hurt for Taylor-Johnson's absence - in large part because Alfie Williams, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes are themselves so compelling to watch - but it was still hugely unexpected for the actor to dip out so early, especially as he wasn't killed off.
