Done To Death: The air-headed love interest of Adam Sandler. Is there any onscreen couple as overdone as Barrymore and Sandler? The Wedding Singer worked because it was new, but that was in 1998; 2004 saw the release and tepid reaction to 50 First Dates, which again starred Barrymore in the second-fiddle love interest role, and after that you'd think all interest would be lost in that particular experiment. But that's not the case, as Blended, due out this month, features Barrymore and Sandler as a couple stumbling into love in an achingly familiar way. The films where Barrymore has played something other than the love interest of the main character are few and far between. By no means is a different kind of movie an automatic success for Barrymore (see Charlie's Angel's: Full Throttle), but any change of pace would be welcome at this point.
