10 Actors Not Returning For Upcoming Sequels

9. Geoffrey Rush - Pirates 6

You may have heard last year that star Johnny Depp exited the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but another blow was dealt to the winning formula established by the blockbuster film series a little earlier.

After his character was killed off in the series’ critically reviled fifth instalment, Dead Men Tell No Tales, screen veteran and all-time great baddie Geoffrey Rush opted to take the title literally and bowed out of any further instalments. His captain Barbossa is, along with Depp’s Jack Sparrow, one of few major characters to feature in all five films thus far, with the fourth instalment dropping love interests Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.

It would ordinarily be fair to presume that the actor couldn’t have returned regardless, given his character’s fitting redemptive death at the end of the fifth film left him in a watery grave. But, with the character having been revived twice already, any fan of the franchise can tell you Captain Barbossa dying is no guarantee that he’ll stay dead.

Well, until now, that is.
