10 Actors That Became Great Directors

7. Robert Redford

Known for his roles in hit 60s and 70s films such as The Sting, Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid and All The President's Men, as well as his championing of independent films through the Sundance Film Festival, Robert Redford has also made several films of his own, winning the Academy Award for Best Director at his first attempt with 1980's Ordinary People. He followed this with the highly watchable Quiz Show, The Horse Whisperer and A River Runs Through It, amongst others, whilst his latest directorial output, 2012's The Company You Keep, also sees him in an acting role for the first time since 2007's Lions For Lambs, in which he directed contemporary acting heavyweights Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep.
