After a string of acting flops in the early 2000s, including Daredevil, Gigli and the best forgotten Pearl Harbour, many had dismissed Ben Affleck's career as all but over, having failed to hit the heights achieved by his Good Will Hunting co-writer and co-star Matt Damon, despite strong performances in films such as Chasing Amy. It took a critically acclaimed portrayal of troubled television actor George Reeves in 2006's Hollywoodland for people to take notice once again, paving the way for him to begin a directorial career that has so far yielded three hits in three attempts, beginning with 2007's Gone Baby Gone, a Dennis Lehane adaptation starring his younger brother Casey, and maturing with both 2009's The Town and the recently released Argo.
