10 Actors That Really Need To Stop Repeating Themselves
3. Adam Sandler
Adam Sandler became one of the most successful movie stars in the world thanks to his polarizing brand of comedy that usually saw him playing some form of man-child backed by a supporting cast of his close buddies, usually making d*ck and fart jokes. It may not have been for everyone, but the fact that twelve of his movies between 1999 and 2013 earned over $100m at the domestic box office showed that the man had his fans.
His recent exclusive deal with Netflix has been more of the same. The Ridiculous 6 may have been universally panned and hold a rare 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but was viewed more times in its first 30 days than any other Netflix original movie. Follow-ups The Do-Over and Sandy Wexler were similarly vilified, but the streaming giant nonetheless extended their deal with Sandler for four more movies.
People still keep paying him millions of dollars to make terrible movies, so where is the incentive to change? What makes it even more infuriating is that the guy can genuinely act when he wants to.
Sandler received critical praise for his work in Punch-Drunk Love, Spanglish, Reign Over Me and Funny People, but is currently receiving the best notices of his career for what is said to be a fantastic performance in Noah Baumbach's The Meyerowitz Stories. Unfortunately, this will more than likely be nothing more than a minor blip before the actor reverts to type in another four interminable Netflix projects.
