10 Actors That Tried Being Action Heroes And Failed Miserably

2. Mark Wahlberg

With the glaring exception of M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening, the overwhelming majority of Mark Wahlberg's worst movies tend to come along when he tries his hand at being an action hero. Some of them may have found success at the box office, but the former Marky Mark's talents are much better suited to the crime and thriller genres than they are to straight-up actioners.

It isn't from a lack of trying either, with Wahlberg taking top billing in the Planet of the Apes and The Italian Job remakes, Four Brothers, Shooter, Max Payne, the fourth and fifth Transformers movies, Mile 22 and Netflix's recent Spenser Confidential, all of which could be described as passable at best and dire at worst.

A surprisingly gifted comic talent and a reliable presence in true-life dramas and various crime stories, Wahlberg doesn't show any signs of abandoning his quest to conquer the action genre anytime soon, despite his history over the last two decades making for less than encouraging reading.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
