10 Actors That Went From Their Best Movie To Their Worst
6. Will Ferrell - Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgandy To Melinda And Melinda
A beloved and fan-favourite comic actor, Will Ferrell is best known for his clownish characters and sharp improvisations of Blades of Glory, Stepbrothers, Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby, and - of course - Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy. Complete with a phenomenal supporting cast and razor-sharp comedic writing, Anchorman proved that the former SNL star's brand of childish humour can work wonders under the right conditions.
Given Ferrell's distinctive style of comedy, his next film appearance as Hubie in Woody Allen's parallel comedy and tragedy Melinda And Melinda came across as a strange choice.
While Ferrell has shown that he's more than capable of pulling off more serious roles (Everything Must Go and Stranger Than Fiction being prime examples), it takes a certain neurotic awkwardness to portray the male leads the auteur made famous in his early works. Owen Wilson had it in Midnight in Paris and Jesse Eisenberg had it in Café Society, but Ferrell's lively persona just wasn't the right fit this time around.
The film itself may not have bombed as bad as some of Ferrell's other comedy misfires, but at least those parts played to his strengths.
