10 Actors That Were Totally Wasted In The Marvel Cinematic Universe
2. Stanley Tucci - Dr. Abraham Erskine - Captain America: The First Avenger
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has managed to draw in some staggering names to its world, including the likes of Robert Redford in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ben Kingsley in Iron Man 3 and of course Glenn Close in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. But this trend all started with Stanley Tucci in Captain America: The First Avenger, who brought a sense of prestige and weight to the movie with his brief turn. It might be said, then, that Tucci lent some authenticity to the series early in Phase 1 - without him, other more serious actors might not have agreed to come to the MCU in the huge numbers that they eventually did. Still, to cast Tucci in such a small part during a few brief scenes in Captain America: The First Avenger seems to vastly under appreciate his abilities as a performer. His villainous appearance in The Lovely Bones got him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 2010 Academy Awards, after all. Couldn't that innate villainous ability have been turned to something more suitable in a later film in the MCU? What if some silly casting had resulted in Sebastian Stan being cast in The Incredible Hulk prior to appearing as Bucky in the Captain American films? It would have resulted in the fans being robbed of his excellent performance as the Winter Soldier; the same applies to Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull what if he had been cast as a random Asgardian in Thor? It feels like Tucci, legend that he is, could've been used way, way better.
