6. Kate Mara - U.S. Agent - Iron Man 2

For Kate Mara, it was actually more a case of unfortunate hindsight than an obvious instance of Marvel wasting a talented actor. After all, they couldn't possibly have guessed that she would go on to land a recurring role in the first season of American Horror Story, followed by a career defining part in Netflix's House of Cards. Of course, the biggest is yet to come as she was recently cast as Susan Storm/Invisible Woman in Fox's upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. Still, you'd have thought Marvel might've seen this actress as more worthwhile than the part they initiallu gave her; she appeared in a single scene as an unnamed U.S. Agent in Iron Man 2 and not THE U.S. Agent (although if that hero was gender swapped then it would make an interesting change and make her/him far much more distinct from Captain America on screen). Before Iron Man 2 was released, it was rumoured that she was actually appearing as Bethany Cabe (one of Tony Stark's love interests). This particular rumour was so strong, in fact, that it even made it way onto her IMDB page. Wasted talent, indeed.
