10 Actors Who Turned Down Roles In Star Wars

5. Gary Oldman - General Grievous

Grevious Oldman Oldman loves a franchise - from bats to basilisks, his face crops up in some of our most beloved films. Alas, we came close to having his voice in one more. It had been agreed that Oldman would be the voice of General Grievous, the four-armed leader of the Sith army and voice appearances in Kung-Fu Panda, Call of Duty V and several Spyro installments certainly suggest he would have embraced the role fully. Unfortunately for fans however, disagreements of how actors were being hired for the film eventually served as a stumbling block. Oldman was against the fact that Lucasfilms was employing actors working outside of the Screen Actors Guild (of which he is a member) and refused to commit to a project he could not back the ethics of. As such, the role was taken by Matthew Wood - a Lucasfilms employee that, due to this fact, submitted his reading under the name Alan Smithee. The role has now been reinstated and the credit is under Wood's original name on IMDB.
