10 Actors Who Admit To Bombing Big Auditions

1. Jake Gyllenhaal - Lord Of The Rings

The movie: Movies, actually - three to be precise. The trilogy was the ambitious undertaking of Peter Jackson to adapt J.R.R. Tolkien's epic series. They became the one of the most successful (and longest) trilogies in film history.

The actor: Jake Gyllenhaal is an actor of considerable talent and has steadily risen to become one of the most popular movie stars out there. He has excelled in films like Brokeback Mountain, Nightcrawler, End of Watch and occasionally dabbles in genre work like Source Code. But he has generally avoided the big spectacle films like the LOTR series. I wonder why.

The audition: It's best to go into an audition as prepared as possible. Surely, Gyllenhaal had his lines memorized and gave it his all, but he probably should have checked with Peter Jackson before deciding to make the character of Frodo an American:

"He literally turned to me and said, ‘You are the worst actor that I have ever seen.’ He said, ‘Did anyone tell you you were supposed to have an accent?’ I was like, ‘No!’ And he said, ‘Well, fire your agents.’"

Ouch. That's a bit harsh, Pete.
