10 Actors Who Almost Played 2019's Biggest Roles

As reports began rolling out that DiCaprio wasn't averse to starring in a comic book movie, and then that frequent collaborator Martin Scorsese and Robert DeNiro were attached to a Joker origins movie, fans of DC and film as a whole were intrigued to know whether the seemingly impossible could happen and the Oscar winner would don the makeup of the Clown Prince of Crime.

While Warner Bros. were reportedly interested in signing the The Wolf of Wall Street star, the excitement was soon trampled by the more believable news that neither DiCaprio nor Warner Bros. representatives wanted to comment.

This was a clear sign that any real talks were either going poorly or non existent, but it proved a point, DC were about to get a seriously dark version of the Joker in to our cinemas.

Since then, the casting of Joaquin Phoenix and the first look trailer are impressive statements of Warner Bros. intent to do something creatively different to what we have seen before, and maybe even reach for awards season recognition.
