Largely considered to be one of the worst adaptations of all time and one of the worst films of the decade, M. Nyght Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender is a casting disaster for a variety of reasons.

With the original creators of the popular Avatar cartoon series slamming Shyamalan’s almost entirely inaccurate race casting as gross "misinterpretations and misrepresentations" of their work, Jesse McCartney would have also been a racial miscast of Zuko – a role which later went to Dev Patel – who belongs to Chinese origin in the show.

McCartney was forced to drop out of the show due to his tour dates clashing with martial arts training for the cast. Probably for the best, as Patel was later quoted as being ‘taught the power of saying no’ after seeing ‘a stranger on the screen’ in the movie.
