8. Emily Blunt - Edge Of Tomorrow
Emily Blunt never seemed like someone who would transition into action all too well.
She was a decorated star thanks to her work in movies like The Devil Wears Prada and had a light brush with the genre thanks to The Adjustment Bureau, but took a backseat to her counterpart.
Even that film wasn't too heavily focussed on action though, so it seemed that the genre just wasn't for her. However, that all changed when Edge of Tomorrow released.
While she took a backseat to her male co-star in Adjustment Bureau, that wasn't the case in this awesome action-packed sci-fi experience, as Blunt even ended up outshining the far more experienced action star Tom Cruise. Her character (Rita) was a dramatic shift for her, as her typically reserved and passive energy was replaced with harshness and a tonne of physical toughness.
It was surprising to see the upper-class and soft-spoken star in such a kick-ass role. Soon this ended up becoming a regular occurrence, as she went on to give great performances in movies like Sicario and A Quiet Place, with many even slating her as the perfect choice for a gender-bent James Bond.
It doesn't get much better than that.
