10 Actors Who Began Their Career In A Soap Opera
6. Sarah Lancashire
Sarah Lancashire can only be described as a national treasure. The award-winning actress has appeared in a number of insanely successful and well-written drama series, from the hard-hitting Happy Valley to the joyous Last Tango In Halifax, and more recently, the harrowing Kiri.
Happy Valley is undoubtedly the piece of work that has defined Lancashire's career, but it's not what's responsible for the actress' notoriety. That honour goes to Coronation Street.
Lancashire joined the soap in 1991, portraying barmaid and hopeful model Raquel Wolstenhulme - a character that she would end up playing for five more years. After leaving the soap, Lancashire would make one final appearance as Raquel in 2000, before she moved on to starring in primetime drama series'.
Many viewers consider Coronation Street to have been in its prime during the late '80s and early '90s, which is likely why Lancashire is still to this day associated with the soap.
