10 Actors Who Begged For Their Character NOT To Die

8. Connie Britton - Nashville

Nashville is an American musical drama set around certain fictional music singers located in the heart of Tennessee. The first series was aired in 2012 and immediately went down as one of the best shows on ABC for binging on, with its sudden moments of drama and collection of strong female lead characters.

Arguably the strongest and most popular of these strong female characters was Connie Britton's Rayna Jaymes, a forty year old Country singer whose superstardom has slowly started to come to an end when the show kicks off.

However, the movement of the show from ABC to CMT for its fifth season would spell disaster for Britton's character. After an intense storyline with a fanatic fan and his obsessive stalking of her, Rayna Jaymes is in the middle of being escorted home when her car is crashed into. Though there are a few more scenes of her surgery and post-surgery moments, this was a truly staggering move by CMT towards one of their most popular characters.

When speaking about the drawn-out death of Rayna Jaymes, Connie Britton remarked that she had asked "Is there a way to do this where she doesn't die?" to the show's producers. It goes to show just how connected Britton was with Rayna, and how desperate she was to see her come out of her unfortunate crash unscathed.

In the end, it was decided that Rayna would simply never leave her children or Deacon, so for Britton to leave, as she had decided she needed to.
