Their Typecasting:
Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens have one huge thing in common: they both got their starts on The Disney Channel. Vanessa Hudgens in High School Musical and Selena Gomez in Wizards of Waverly Place. Both girl's fanbases were made up of young kids, and both girls were pressured into fitting the mould of a Disney kid.
How They Broke It:
Both girls were desperate to shed themselves of the Disney kid image. So naturally, they took roles in the promiscuous and controversial movie Spring Breakers. In the movie the two of them play bank robbing, party loving, college girls. The movie shockingly shows them using guns, doing drugs, killing people and having threesomes.
What Went Wrong:
Unfortunately for the girls, their attempt at shedding their Disney image completely backfired on them and they were anointed new titles: ex Disney disasters. There is a special category for Disney actors that fall off the wagon after finishing their contracts, and that image is even more criticised and belittled than their original good-girl images. From there, the girls struggled to break free from a whole new level of typecasting thrust upon them.
