10 Actors Who Broke Typecasting In The Worst Way Possible

6. Morgan Freeman - Going In Style

Spring Breakers
New Line Cinema

His Typecasting:

Morgan Freeman is the voice of God. Literally, his voice is so distinctive, he has played God multiple times. Because of his authoritative presence, Freeman has been typecast as the neutral leader. This role includes God, Narrators, Politicians and Professors. He is always there to lead the main character into the right choices.

How He Broke It:

Apparently Freeman got tired of that trope because he decided to take a role in the grandpa-comedy movie Going In Style. At last he wasn't playing a God-like figure or a calm narrator, instead he played the role of a bank robbing old guy.

What Went Wrong:

The movie did little to show off Morgan Freeman as a comedic actor. His dramatic chops came through in the more emotional scenes, but his attempt at comedy fell completely flat; the movie in general fell completely flat, to be honest. It felt like the filmmakers had a funny idea about old men robbing a bank and just ran with it. There was no substance to the story and audiences were left disappointed by the performance given by the three main protagonists.
