Bella Thorne made a name for herself when she left the Disney Channel as a rebellious and controversial figure. Her scandals range from dating disasters to capitalising off of the sex-worker industry. And because of her infamy, Thorne's acting career became synonymous with her scandalous image, meaning her roles exclusively entailed Thorne pretty much acting as herself.
How She Broke It:
Thorne decided to nip this stereotype in the bud when she took the starring role in the tragic teen movie Midnight Sun. Gone were the countless piercings, her hair was stripped of any crazy colours or styles and the cliché girl-next-door was born anew.
What Went Wrong:
Thorne may have looked the part, but she is no Shailene Woodley. The role of a young girl with a serious, life threatening illness was just too far out of Thorne's grasp. Thorne just did not have the acting chops.
And Thorne did nothing to distance herself from her controversial image, considering that straight after the film's release she was back to her old antics, and the movie was completely overshadowed by her drama.
