10 Actors Who Deeply Regret Starring In Comic Book Movies

5. Mickey Rourke

Mickey Rourke's excellent comeback in The Wrestler generated a lot of excitement, and so it's easy to see why fans were over the moon when Marvel revealed that he had been chosen as the lead villain in Iron Man 2. Unfortunately, there was a lot wrong with that movie as it scrambled to set up The Avengers, and Rourke's performance ended up being one of its biggest issues. However, if he's to be believed, it's all Marvel's fault! He's claimed that all of the good things about his performance ended up being cut by the studio, frequently criticising the one dimensional Whiplash in interviews and repeatedly stating that director Jon Favreau "didn't have any balls." Now, it's no secret that Marvel takes a lot of creative control with the final cuts of their movies, but the actor's claims about being heavily edited do seem somewhat hard to take 100% seriously. Much of what was awful about his villain - the parrot for example - were his ideas, but there's no denying that Rourke did end up being a victim of a movie that failed to live up to its predecessor and now sits alongside The Incredible Hulk as the black sheep of the Marvel Studios back catalogue. Regardless, the actor's disdain for all things Marvel in the years since make it clear he regrets working with them.
