10 Actors Who Distanced Themselves From What Made Them Great

9. Shia LaBeouf - Transformers

It may be difficult for some to remember a time when Shia LaBeouf wasn't a rugged anti-establishment source of social media gold, yet when he first started to gather momentum in the film industry he was anything but that.

Proving to be the breakout star of the hit Disney Channel series Even Stevens, LaBeouf enjoyed his first shot of real film attention after his portrayal of Stanley Yelnats in 2003's Holes. Yet, it would take another four years for the child star to fully shed that cuddly aesthetic, as he was eventually chosen to front Michael Bay's next big project.

Even though LaBeouf himself actually brought a much needed grounded levity to the first three Transformers movies, it soon became apparent - after his time in the series had come to an end - just how much the up-and-comer dettested his role in the franchise.

Going on record to say that the films were 'irrelevant' and 'dated as f**k', LaBeouf felt as though these films were 'the antithesis of (his) purpose on this planet.'

If that wasn't clear enough, LaBeouf stayed well away from any mindless action flicks post-Transformers and he carved out a respectable career in the process, with Lawless (2012) and Fury (2014) showcasing just how much talent had been wasted on a series that was more interested in smashing big robots together.
