10 Actors Who Gave Their WORST Performance In Great Movies
9. Keanu Reeves—Bram Stoker’s Dracula
One of the great bad performances, at least a portion of the blame for this one belongs to The Godfather helmer/ inarguable Hollywood royalty Francis Ford Coppola.
After all, when it came time to adapt Bram Stoker’s iconic horror novel in the early nineties the Apocalypse Now auteur had his choice of stars for the central role of protagonist Jonathan Harker. A lot of names could have come to mind, including the director’s own nephew Nicholas Cage (don’t worry, he made it into this list too), but the surfer dude from Point Break and goofy eponymous slacker of the Bill and Ted’s franchise should not have been one of them.
This point is of course evidenced in the resultant performance, wherein if nothing else, no one can argue that Keanu Reeves doesn’t give the part his all. No, like Gary Oldman’s titular count, Reeves goes for it—the performance is full on and sees the actor commit to his period English accent with aplomb.
The problem is, even in the intentionally over the top gothic atmosphere of Coppola’s film, Reeves’ accent is… well, unrecognizable is putting it mildly. Combine this with a passionate anger which reads more as “dismayed stoner” and you’ve got a terrible turn for the ages, despite how solid the surrounding flick is.
