Another actor with a regular big screen presence, Matthew McConaughey has had a widely varied career, but it took him a full two decades to reach the peak of his performing abilities.

The actor got his start in the early nineties and went on to star in many rom-coms over the next two decades. On occasion he would tackle other genres in releases like Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. Many of these efforts wouldn't do very well and he ended up being typecast in a smaller range of flicks.

McConaughey had his share of duds in the 2000s, such as Sahara and Failure To Launch. He would later bounce back with Dallas Buyers Club and other acclaimed efforts. This marked a point some pundits call "The McConnaissance" which unfolded between 2011 and 2014.

At this point, McConaughey had put aside the image of a ladies man and chose deeper, more morally grey characters to play.

Films like Interstellar and The Gentlemen have continued the actor's momentum. While occasional releases like The Dark Tower have failed to catch on, the actor now sits on a much higher perch than where he started.
