English actor Robert Pattinson is one performer who was tarred with a single brush for some time, having put in a fairly unremarkable performance as vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight series.

Pattinson kicked off his film career in a big way by appearing in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. As Cedric Diggory, he played a major role in pushing the series along a darker direction. Once this effort was over however, the actor would go on to take the lead in the Twilight movies.

While this series was very successful with its target audience, it was often lambasted by the critics for its weak acting. Pattinson was let down by clumsy writing for Edward Cullen and for five years his skills were mostly wasted. After 2012, the actor began his push into more varied productions.

In recent years, Pattinson has cast off the baggage of the lacklustre Twilight films to prove his talents and then some. Good Time, The Lighthouse and The Devil all the Time - all of these releases have proven that the actor is more than just a wooden slate to be swooned over.

Pattinson is set to play the titular character in Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman, cementing the actor's upward trajectory.
