10 Actors Who Had Incredible Career Revivals
5. Keanu Reeves
Where the end of the McConaissance let us down, the Keanussaince picked us back up again.
Much like his frequent co-star Winona Ryder, Reeves was a darling of the 90s, with high profile commercial roles in The Matrix and Point Break as well as indie dramatic cult classics like My Own Private Idaho.
Unfortunately for Reeves, his future big-budget endeavours wouldn’t be as successful, leading to low impact movies with average critical responses like Constantine and The Day The Earth Stood Still. The Matrix well had dried up by 2003 and Reeves found himself typecast.
2013 saw Reeves starring in one of the biggest box office bombs of all time in 47 Ronin, yet Reeves’ typecast nature began to return him to success the following year with the first instalment in the John Wick franchise.
The franchise picked up steam slowly between its first two instalments, and by the time of the third film’s release in 2019, the series was a phenomenon.
Reeves has been everywhere in 2019. Between John Wick 3, Toy Story 4, a scene-stealing role in Netflix comedy Always Be My Maybe, his meme-filled appearance at E3 to promote Cyberpunk 2077 as well as just generally being a nice down-to-earth guy, the Keanussaince is in full swing.
Marvel executive Kevin Feige has since gone on the record about attempting to recruit Reeves to the MCU for years, and there’s no better time than now to see it finally become a reality.
