1. Morgan Freeman - Paradise Highway & The Minute You Wake Up Dead
Let's start this entry by saying that Morgan Freeman is 85 years old and has earned the right to do whatever he wants.
We just wish that he wanted to make better movies.
Paradise Highway sees Freeman play Gerick, a law enforcement agent on the heels of a kidnapped girl. The girl ends up in the possession of Juliette Binoche, a truck driver trying to keep her safe from people smugglers.
It's not a bad idea at all and Freeman does well as the experienced cop with an unyielding desire for justice. Sadly, the rest of the movie is pretty standard and fails to fully convey the tension of such an emotionally impactful scenario.
Then, in November, Freeman appeared in murder thriller The Minute You Wake Up Dead. Once again cast as a cop, Freeman is tasked with protecting two people from a killer with a vengeance.
If that sounds basic, that's because it is.
It's a total mess, with people confessing their crimes way too early, leading to absolutely zero tension in the final act.
Freeman was done dirty by both of these pictures in 2022. He should be commended for his passion for acting, but maybe it's time he used that famous voice to say "No" a few times.
