10 Actors Who Hated Scenes From Their Own Movies

1. Holt McCallany Hated How His Justice League Scene Was Re-Edited

Justice League's production was a big 'ol mess, that much is no secret: the film turned out like nobody imagined at the outset, and it's impossible to imagine anyone being satisfied with the end result.

Though most of the A-list cast have kept relatively quiet about the movie and offered only diplomatic responses, a veteran character actor who had a small role at the start of the film freely criticised how his scene in the superhero epic was executed.

Holt McCallany, best known for his fantastic performance as Bill Tench in Netflix's Mindhunter, appears for a few minutes at the start of the movie as a thug who is intercepted by Batman (Ben Affleck).

However, in a post-release interview, the actor confirmed that the scene was significantly re-jigged in the editing room and ended up far away from its scripted intent.

He said, "I love [director] Joss Whedon. My scene with Batman was originally conceived as a comedic scene. That’s how Joss wrote it, and that’s how we shot it. I thought it came out great, but the studio felt it would be a mistake to open the film with a completely comedic scene, so it was re-edited a little bit. I was disappointed, but when I got home to New York I found a bottle of my favorite Champagne and a note from Joss that said 'To Battles Lost. Gratefully, Joss.' I can’t tell you how much it meant to me that he took the time to write to me. Joss Whedon is a class act. I had the letter framed."

Given that the final version of the scene is played pretty much entirely straight, it's easy to see why McCallany was upset with how it turned out.

But at least Whedon had the good tact to give him a heads-up about it before the premiere - and the champagne clearly didn't hurt.
