10 Actors Who Have Become Badass Directors
4. Olivia Wilde
Booksmart was one of the best movies of 2019. The teen comedy plays like a woke version of Superbad, following two high school seniors as they try to have one great night of partying to make up for their straightlaced high school careers. Surprisingly, the film is funny, heartfelt, and fresh, despite the somewhat tired genre.
What's even more surprising about Booksmart is that it was helmed by actress Olivia Wilde. Wilde has acted since 2004, appearing as a series regular in the medical drama House from 2007-2012. She's also appeared in such films as Tron: Legacy, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, and The Lazarus Effect.
Booksmart was Wilde's directorial debut, and she knocked it out of the park. Her direction plays a key role in helping the film stand out from other teen comedies. Much like her lead characters after high school, Wilde has a bright future ahead of her.
