10 Actors Who Hid That They Were In Famous Movies

1. Gary Oldman - Hannibal

Hannibal, the artsy, but rather vapid sequel to The Silence Of The Lambs is deemed by many fans to be a waste of time. And while there's major issues with Ridley Scott's film (Clarice Starling should have been retired when Jodie Foster refused to return), it does boast an incredible villain in the form of Mason Verger. A vengeful pedophilie wanting to punish Hannibal Lecter for what the doctor made him do to his face, he's a slurpingly disgusting character to watch, with a boar-tastic death scene. TV's Hannibal may have recently shown Michael Pitt tear his face off in viscerally gruesome fashion, but it's the Gary Oldman's performance as an older version that really sticks in the mind.

Oh yeah, that's Gary Oldman underneath all the make-up. Originally he wanted to have top billing, but the producers couldn't justify putting him alongside two Oscar-winning characters. Initially put off, Oldman came back with a totally different proposition; he gets no billing at all. The make-up would make him totally unrecognisable, so why not add to that effect by keeping the identity of who's underneath a mystery?

Home video releases have added in Oldman's name into both the opening and closing titles, but that doesn't take away from how mysterious the role remains in and of itself.

What do you make of uncredited roles? A great way to keep the focus on the film or just self-involved actors showing off their celebrity? Were any from this list unwarranted? Have your say in the comments below.
