10 Actors Who Improved At Something They Were Terrible At
1. Amanda Seyfried - Learning Her Lines
Amanda Seyfried's career has massively levelled up in recent years, scoring an Oscar nomination for her performance as Marion Davies in David Fincher's Mank, and then landing an Emmy nod for her turn as biotech entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes in the Hulu series The Dropout.
Seyfried's certainly always been a talented actress, but it's clear that she's riding a major career high right now. In a recent interview, Seyfried spoke openly about her career, claiming to be incredibly self-aware about both her strengths and weaknesses as a performer.
And by her own admission, Seyfried's biggest flaw, and one which she's sought to correct, is learning her lines at the last possible minute. She said:
"My weaknesses are that I can get lazy. I can learn my lines in the makeup chair, on the day, and sometimes that gets in the way. Sometimes it doesn't, but sometimes it does."
And what better way to purge that habit than by working on a David Fincher movie? The famously perfectionist director doesn't suffer unprepared actors lightly, and at the time of Mank's release, Seyfried said that she shot 200 takes of one scene.
Obviously, an actor needs to have their lines on lock if they're going to work with Fincher, and evidently Seyfried did, as her hard work was rewarded with a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nod.
